United States Senate: We write regarding a recent article in the Washington Post (“Examining the U.S. responsetoIran’scensorshiponanniversary ofrevolution,”February18,2010). Thearticle detailed intervention by the National Security Council to discourage , and then tone down, a statement issued by the Voice of America (VOA) regarding Iran’s jamming ofVOA’s broadcasts. If true, these actions constitute serious violations ofU.S. law, policy and tradition related to the editorial independence of the taxpayer-funded Broadcasting Board of Governors (BBG). We believe it is important for you to address the claims made in the article.
